Skiers' delight: 2 resorts open
November 16, 2007 - There's good news for skiers this weekend -- two of North Carolina's mountain resorts will be open for business. The arrival of cold weather and a bit of snow Thursday evening has enabled several of the resorts to begin their snow-making operations. November 21, 2005 - Area ski slopes took advantage of a cold snap to fire up the snow makers and opened for the weekend. Sugar Mountain Ski Resort opened on Friday for skiing and snowboarding, after crews began making artificial snow Wednesday afternoon.

November 17, 2003 - WCYB-TV, VA - A cold snap in North Carolina has skiers
all across the region heading to the slopes. Sugar Mountain Resort in
Banner Elk has been making snow since early Thursday. A one-thousand
foot stretch on the flying mile trail opened yesterday. Crowds have been
large over the weekend, and despite a constant rain for much of today,
diehards are still hitting the slopes. Sugar Mountain has a long
tradition of being the first to open in North Carolina.
