November 11, 2003 - Kingston Daily Freeman, NY - Snow guns were blazing at Hunter and Windham mountains in Greene County and at the Belleayre Mountain Ski Center in Ulster County, where, without much notice, one trail was opened for business on Sunday. "A customer came in and said the skiing was wonderful," said Paul Zagkowski at Potter Brothers Ski Shop on state Route 28 in the town of Ulster.  read more

Slope owners anticipate cold, snowy and profitable ski season
November 08, 2003 - MSNBC - Nov. 10 ? Double the snow, double the fun. At least for the region's ski resorts and related businesses. There were 105 inches of snow last winter, more than double the 48 inches in the 2001 season, and that translates to high hopes for the upcoming winter. A good snowy winter creates or rekindles people's commitment to skiing and snow sports, ands encourages them to upgrade equipment, buy season passes and get out on the slopes as early as possible, said Jason Stratton, group sales director for Windham Mountain, in Windham, Greene County. "We love it when Mother Nature gives us a winter like last year," he said. Pre-season ticket sales are up at Windham and other regional ski resorts, and ski equipment and apparel retailers are taking advantage of the early interest by offering sales.  read more
