December 26, 2007 - DENVER - Santa brought just what the nation's ski resorts wanted â the best nationwide snow conditions in several years. From New England to California, the snow dumped in the days and weeks before Christmas. Even Taos, in the desert southwest, had a 60-inch base.  read more

Sandia Peak Ski Area Postpones Its Opening
December 12, 2003 - East Mountain Telegraph, NM - Sandia Peak Ski Area has postponed its Friday opening because of a lack of snow, ski area director Tom Long said Tuesday. Sandia Peak, which never opened last season after a very dry winter, is tentatively scheduled to open Dec. 19. "If everything goes just right, we might be able to make it by then," Long said. "If not, we're shooting for Dec. 22 or 23. Before Christmas would be ideal." Long said 4 to 5 inches of snow fell during Monday's storm, but that was not enough to open the ski area on time.  read more

Sandia is a go to make snow this season
November 07, 2003 - Albuquerque Tribune, NM - When it rains, it snows. At least that's the case when humans get involved in making snow to guarantee a successful ski season at Sandia Peak. A few rainy days during the summer and runoff collected last spring have filled the slope's reservoirs of water for making snow, Sandia Peak Ski Area spokesman Michael Donovan says.
