First annual KSM Showdown competition
August 03, 2004 - Natives, UK - On Sunday 29 August (Bank Holiday Sunday), the first annual KSM Showdown competition will take place at Sheffield Ski Village. The KSM Showdown is a "for the riders by the riders" event in the truest sense of the words. The organisers of the competition are the Kneesall Massive (commonly referred to as the KSM) and they are a crew of skiers, some of whom are among the best skiers in the UK. Having competed in almost all the competitions in the UK, the members of the KSM decided that they could run an event that would blow all the others away.  read more

Longtime rivals Maier, Miller yet to have classic showdown
February 28, 2004 - CNN/SI - In the winter of 1998, Hermann Maier revolutionized alpine ski racing. A former bricklayer who was overlooked by the Austrian Ski Federation's talent machine, Maier clawed his way onto the World Cup circuit by winning Triple-A races in a torn and ratty racing suit. He skied a tighter, more daring line than any racer in history and he went faster, too. He dominated the sport and won two gold medals in Nagano.  read more

Snowboarder's autopsy shows no injuries
January 24, 2004 - Great Falls Tribune, MT - Meagher County officials believe a Great Falls snowboarder whose body was found near Showdown Ski Area Wednesday died of hypothermia, but until toxicology reports are complete the official cause of death can't be determined. During an autopsy completed Friday, officials found no sign of injury, said Meagher County Sheriff Rick Seidlitz.  read more

Great Falls snowboarder found dead near Showdown
January 23, 2004 - Great Falls Tribune, MT - A Great Falls man was found dead near Showdown Ski Area Wednesday, after he had snowboarded into a remote, heavily forested area earlier in the week. Showdown Ski Patrol members found Lance Koke, 38, after following a single snowboard track that left the west side of Showdown on the Ranch Creek Trail, a cross-country ski trail.  read more

Showdown's opening day
December 13, 2003 - Great Falls Tribune, MT - A small crowd of enthusiastic skiers celebrated the opening of Showdown ski area Friday. "We got first tracks on Golden Goose," exclaimed snowboarder Sam Barer. "The powder was really light, so it was hard to plow through." "It was awesome," added his friend, Kody Neil.
