Extreme cold closes Spirit Mountain skiing
January 05, 2004 - Duluth News Tribune, MN - The Spirit Mountain Recreation Area will be closed today because of extremely low temperatures, officials announced Sunday. The ski hill closed at 4 p.m. Sunday, five hours early because of the cold weather. According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, today's high temperature is expected to be 0 with the low -11. Wind chill values will be as low as -29 today with snow flurries possible.  read more

December 23, 2003 - Duluth News Tribune, MN - Next time you're out on the slopes at Spirit Mountain, take a look around for the people in red coats with the black first-aid kits on their backs. They're part of a volunteer network that is the first line of help for any accidents and emergencies on the slopes. The Spirit Mountain chapter of the National Ski Patrol has more than 113 volunteers who patrol the slopes every hour the ski hill is open.  read more
