December 10, 2005 - With Mother Nature's cooperation, great season likely. This year Swiss Valley, like many Michigan ski resorts, is off to a great jump start. The state's southernmost ski lodge opened Thursday, five days earlier than last year.

Wiseman has learned a lot about the ups and downs of the ski business.
Fortunately for the 66-year-old owner of the Swiss Valley Ski Area, the
last few years have been more of the former than the latter. He recalled
Saturday that it cost him just $5,000 to buy the business near Michigan
60 and Patterson Hill Road in 1968.
