September 07, 2004 - Adrian Daily Telegram, MI - BELLAIRE -- A bank is foreclosing
on the Shanty Creek-Schuss Mountain resort, and it is going up for
auction later this month. Some local residents are convinced the
sprawling recreation area will survive, while others hope it will. ...
Shanty Creek opened in 1962, Schuss Mountain in 1968. They merged in
1986, creating a 4,500-acre ''destination property'' consisting of 47
ski slopes, four 18-hole golf courses, miles of cross-country ski and
mountain biking trails and hundreds of rooms.

Bank foreclosing on Shanty Creek Resort
August 23, 2004 - Detroit Free Press, MI - BELLAIRE, Mich. (AP) -- Comerica Bank
says Shanty Creek Resort & Club has defaulted on a $20.35 million
mortgage and has begun foreclosing on several of its properties. Resort
co-owner LaVanway Capital and Trade Corp. said in a news release that
the foreclosure "does not change operations or ownership of the
resort." Among the affected properties are the Cedar River, Summit
Village and Schuss Mountain golf courses, the Summit and Cedar River
Village lodges, the Schuss restaurant and ski slopes, and numerous
individual condominium units throughout the resort, which is between
Bellaire and Mancelona in the northwestern Lower Peninsula.
