Porcupine Mountain Ski Resort News

Changes Made At Ski Hill
October 29, 2003 - WLUC-TV, MI - Management changes are in effect for the Porcupine Mountains State Park ski hill.  The DNR announced yesterday that negotiations with a private concessionaire are over.  The contract, awarded to Porcupine Mountain, ensures the popular park will continue to offer downhill skiing and cross country trails this winter. The hill is the only downhill ski operation run by the state and relies on natural snowfall.  read more

State Close To Deal To Privatize Porcupine Ski Area
August 28, 2003 - Mackinac Center for Public Policy, MI - Officials with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are closing in a deal with Bohemia Limited to get out of the ski business. Porcupine Mountains Downhill Ski Area is the only ski hill owned by the state and it's been a consistent loser when it comes to financing. Last year, the hill lost the state some $140,000. In mid July, the Mackinac Center for Public Policy issued an article essentially calling for the privatization of the ski area.  read more
