ski and snowboard season is finally here
November 01, 2004 - Summit Daily News, CO - Slowly but surely,
Colorado's ski resorts are firing up the lifts for the 2004-2005 ski and
snowboard season. Arapahoe Basin, Loveland and Wolf Creek are open, and
Copper plans to follow suit on Friday. By Nov. 20, nine more Colorado
ski areas will be open, including Keystone, Breckenridge, Vail and
Beaver Creek. On Dec. 16, the last of the state's 25 ski resorts -
Silverton Mountain - plans to be open.

September 10, 2004 - Summit Daily News, CO - ARAPAHOE BASIN -
Jen Brill chuckles at Summit County's friendly competition each fall
between ski areas who race to open first for the season. It is a mighty
snowmaking battle. Brill, who owns Silverton Mountain in southwest
Colorado, has been skiing on natural snow under her lift since Labor Day
weekend. "Competition is healthy," she said. "We are
lucky that our mountain is at such a high elevation." Although the
lift at Silverton served skiers last week, the competition for
season-opening bragging rights will rage between local areas.

skiing may expand
August 08, 2004 - Denver Post, CO - The U.S. Bureau of Land Management will
recommend for the first time that some unguided skiers be allowed on
expert-only Silverton Mountain, ending more than three years of study of
Colorado's first new ski area in decades. The bureau's final
environmental impact statement, to be released Friday, will allow as
many as 475 guided and unguided skiers a day - up from 80 - at the area
above the struggling mining village of Silverton.
