January 11, 2004 - Durango Herald, CO - The winter's first spectacular snow dump started the year with busy cash registers for La Plata County's two ski resorts. But the resort with the most snow of all was left out in the cold. Durango Mountain Resort and Hesperus Ski Area both saw a spike in business from powder-hungry ski bums and holiday visitors - the best holiday season they've had in years.  read more

Hesperus open to ski
December 30, 2003 - Durango Herald, CO - Jim Pitcher, who owns and operates the Hesperus Ski Area, reported a 24-inch base on opening day. "Friday we got 8 to 10 inches on top of what we had," Pitcher said. "We're a local place for people around here," he continued. "The out-of-state people we get are people from Texas or California who come to stay with friends.  read more
