January 28, 2006 - NEW: The ESPN Winter X Games are sticking around Aspen a little longer. Aspen Skiing Co. has secured the right to host the annual winter extreme sports competition at its Buttermilk Mountain through 2010, instead of losing the event after next year, officials confirmed. "We love them being here and really wanted to keep the games," said David Perry, senior vice president of Aspen Skiing.

crashes on Buttermilk slopes
September 19, 2004 - Aspen Times, CO - A helicopter crashed on
the slopes of Buttermilk Mountain shortly after 1 p.m. Friday afternoon
while installing towers for the new West Buttermilk Express chair lift.
No injuries were reported, and the pilot walked away from the crash,
according to Michael Kendrick, a deputy with the Pitkin County Sheriffs
Department who was the first emergency worker on the scene. The pilot,
who has not been identified, was the only person aboard the helicopter.

take their turn in X Games superpipe
January 28, 2004 - Summit Daily News, CO - ASPEN - A few
minutes after the completion of the men's skiing superpipe prelims,
Sarah Burke and five other women got to do something no woman has ever
done at the Winter X Games - ski the superpipe at Buttermilk Mountain in
a formal demonstration event. Even though the 19-foot high, 515-foot
long superpipe, custom built for the event, was larger than anything the
skiers had faced before, they adjusted to it quickly, Burke said.

the two outposts have at least one thing in common. Beginning today,
Buttermilk hosts Winter X Games VIII, the annual ex- treme winter sports
show- case in Aspen. Mean- while, on Saturday, Snow Trails hosts the
third-annual Big Air Day -- north central Ohio's slightly watered down
version of the Winter X Games.
