March 26, 2008 - SODA SPRINGS, Calif. -- Bucking a biting, cheek-stinging wind and a foot of new snow that left the tracks soft and punchy, more than 200 skiers converged on Royal Gorge Cross Country Ski Center on Sunday for the 28th Annual Gold, Silver and Bronze Rush ski races.

March 26, 2005 - Jason Jordan shovels snow off the awning of the Soda Springs Store, Wednesday. Although the calender says it's the first week of Spring it seems more like Winter as nearly six feet of snow has fallen in the Soda Springs area since Sunday.

found after night in wilderness
February 15, 2004 - Reno Gazette Journal, NV - Two cross-country skiers
reported missing from Soda Springs, Calif. were found alive early
Saturday by search and rescue crews, Placer County Sheriff?s deputies
said. Joel and Johanna Rosenthal of Half Moon Bay, Calif. left their
cabin about 3 p.m. Friday to ski. Friends called authorities for help at
midnight after not hearing from the couple.

Tahoe Red Ale was still half full and I was snuggling into a comfy
leather chair when a steely, white-haired woman narrowed her eyes at me.
"That's Walt's seat you're sitting in, you know." I started to
get up, but paused. "Who's Walt?" "Walt Disney," she
said. "That was his favorite spot." And then she broke into a
big grin. "Sit down," the woman said. "I don't think he's
going to be using it tonight."
