February 17, 2008 - JUNEAU -- Officials at Juneau's Eaglecrest ski area will honor ski passes issued by a Yukon slope that won't open this year because of a lack of snow and other issues.  read more

Eaglecrest seeks $800K for chairlift
June 15, 2005 - Juneau Empire, AK - With unpredictable snowfall, Eaglecrest Ski Area needs a mid-mountain lift, according to its supporters. For the past few years, Eaglecrest Ski Area has had a late season, thus generating less revenue.  read more

Eaglecrest offers skiers, boarders new packages
November 01, 2004 - Juneau Empire, AK - Eaglecrest Ski Area has only 2 inches of snow, but its new manager, Kirk Duncan, is busy thinking of ways to draw more people this season. One strategy is package deals. In one package, a first-timer can take three ski or snowboard lessons for $99. That includes lift tickets and rentals. After completing the lessons, the person can buy a season pass at half the price.  read more

Eaglecrest Ski Area struggles for survival
June 19, 2004 - Juneau Empire, AK - Eaglecrest Ski Area has weathered some tough snow and financial years and now may have to convince city leaders it remains a community asset to keep from being buried. In the past few years, Eaglecrest management has said that seasons with light snow and rainy weather during holidays are the major reasons why the ski area is running in the red. The board said the Assembly should keep giving Eaglecrest $1.5 million a year because it is a community recreational area, just like the Augustus Brown Swimming Pool.  read more

State could raise fines for skiing violations
February 27, 2004 - Juneau Empire, AK - Skiing in a closed area could cost an Eaglecrest devotee $150 if a new bill passes the Legislature this session. House Bill 188 would allow the Alaska Supreme Court to set penalties for ski area violations already codified in the 1994 Ski Safety Act. State law now allows ski patrollers to issue citations of up to $50 for violations, and they also have ski-area-specific punitive means at their disposal, such as revocation of lift tickets.  read more

Brightening the slopes
February 23, 2004 - Juneau Empire, AK - Niall Johnson went zooming down the Ptarmigan Hill on a snowboard a few Sundays ago at Eaglecrest Ski Area. An outside observer couldn't tell Johnson is a person with developmental disabilities. That's the beauty of Outdoor Recreation Community Access's program that has taught people ages 4 to 60 how to downhill ski and snowboard, program Manager Jennifer Bellman said. About 38 are enrolled this winter, she said.  read more

Eaglecrest submits plan to cut losses
February 16, 2004 - Juneau Empire, AK - What started as a promising snow year with attractively discounted season passes at Eaglecrest is becoming another cause for debate about the ski area's financial future. Ski report
December 14, 2003 - Juneau Empire, AK - Eaglecrest Ski Area reported there would be "nice, smooth turning" on the groomed runs Saturday. Off the groomed area there is packed powder over a variable, irregular base. The snow depth at the lodge was 26 inches. There are about 63 inches of snow at the top. The ski buses are running today. The tubing hill is open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. today. Chairlifts run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  read more

Safety on the slopes
November 30, 2003 - Juneau Empire, AK - Ideally, skiers and snowboarders at Eaglecrest Ski Area this season have spent the summer and fall hiking, biking, in-line skating and strength training to get in shape for the season. But in case they haven't, Juneau physical therapists, who often see downhill winter sports enthusiasts after the athletes blow out their knees, have some tips to stay out of the emergency room this season.  read more
